Is Twist 28 manual focus?
Yes. Twist 28 uses manual focus for a tactile, deliberate shooting experience.
Is the Twist 28 compatible with the Macro Kit Converter?
No, the Lensbaby Macro Kit converters (2.8x and 4x) are not compatible with the Twist 28 lens. They only work with select lenses like Composer Pro II, and other tilt-shift models with compatible front threads.
The Twist 28 uses a different optical design and front threading that doesn't accept the standard macro converters. For close-up work with the Twist 28, you'll need to rely on its native close-focus capabilities. Lensbaby’s macro converters are designed for 46mm filter-thread optics and lenses, and the Twist 28 is a 28mm manual mirrorless lens, so it is not one of the lenses specifically called out for that macro kit.
For the Twist 28, it already focuses fairly close on its own, it can be used for close-up and even macro-style work from around 9 inches away. So if the question is whether the Macro Kit is officially meant for the Twist 28, the safest answer is no, it is not specifically listed as a compatible accessory; if the goal is close-up macro-style shooting, the Twist 28 can already do a lot of that without the kit.
Important Note: Lensbaby does NOT recommend using step-up rings, filters, macro converters, or any accessories with the Twist 28. The lens does not have a front filter thread, and attempting to attach these could damage the optic.
