Lensbaby Macro Accessories
Welcome to the Macro Accessories Step by Step guide.
Most Lensbaby lenses have the capability to shoot close-up. We make two sets of macro accessories that give all of the Composer Pro lenses and optics up-close capabilities.
Lensbaby Macro Converters
The Macro Converters are essentially spacers that sit between the optic and Composer lens body. They will work in Composer series (along with legacy Muse & Control Freak) lenses along with any of our 37mm or 46mm threaded Optics. Our 8mm converter and a 16mm converters are sold together and can be stacked to get even closer. They move the glass forward to give you extra reach and closer focusing capability. The Macro Converters will make the size of your area of focus a bit larger. Here's a quick video on how to install and uninstall the Macro Converters (featuring both our 46mm and 37mm threaded optics).

Lensbaby Macro Filters
The 46mm Macro Filter Kit includes 3 diopters that simply screw onto the front of your Lensbaby Optic. The Filter Kit can be used with any of our 46mm threaded optics and lenses (Sweet 35, Sweet 50, Sweet 80, Edge 50, Edge 80, Sol 45, Sol 22, Twist 60 and Creative Bokeh). The kit includes a +1, +2 and +4 diopter. These diopters can be stacked in combination so you can get even closer. These diopters won't affect the size of the area of focus. These filters are multi-coated and designed to give the highest possible contrast.
The Macro Converters can be used in conjunction with the 46mm Macro Filter kit to get even closer.
Tips for Shooting Macro:
- To get comfortable shooting close up, rotate the Optic all the way forward, and simply lean in toward your subject until it comes into focus. Once you get a feel for the distance range, then try adjusting the focus or tilting.
- The brighter the aperture you choose, the less depth of field you'll have. That can make your margin of error pretty thin when focusing. If you're having trouble, darken your aperture by a stop or two.
- Use a tripod - then you don't need to worry about keeping your body and hands steady.
- Keep in mind that as you move closer to your subject, depending on your light source, you may cast a shadow over the scene. This can produce desirable even lighting, or it can be unwanted. Be aware of how you are placing yourself as you're shooting your subject.
*Macro Filters (not Converters) will also work with Sol 45 and Sol 22.
