Self-taught photographer AJ Schroetlin of Fort Collins, CO was an early adopter of the Lensbaby. Schroetlin built custom homes for a living until an accident (leaving him mostly blind in his left eye) made him re-evaluate his career choice. His eye injury already gave him a unique view of the world, which helped to draw him to photography. His left eye was a complete blur, but his right eye had 20/20 vision, making everything he looked at appear sharp in the middle and blurry on the edges (sound familiar?!).
Schroetlin loves shooting landscapes and wildlife. He also shoots weddings and portraits to pay the bills. Schroetlin says that the Lensbaby has been crucial in helping him develop his photographer’s eye. Using a Lensbaby has taught him that no matter what lens you’re using, you need a clear focal point.
