when using the pinhole zone plate optic do I use it without an aperture ring? or with?
still trying to figure out how to use it and get some shots.

Without.

I don't think it would buy you much for those by stopping them down. The zone plate you could stop down to f/22 but the pinhole is so tiny, none of the apertures would do anything.
