Some friends and I went to scout a Wildlife Rehab Center nearby to do workshops at in the future and had some great opportunities to photograph some Cougars. Here are a few with the LB Composer @f2.8 and a Nikon 2x Tele-converter attached on a Nikon D-200. Thanks for looking.

Thanks William, Rich, Donna and Kmac. I tried to imitate one of my favorite photographer's image from years ago. The image was a Wolf peering around a tree, the photographer was Jim Brandenburg. If you have not seen his work you should check him out. Thanks again for looking and commenting.

#3 for me too. Jim Brandenburg's wolf image is one of my long time favorites also. Been meaning to check with our wildlife rehab center and see if I could photograph there.... thanks for the inspiration!

David , nice shots. #3 is fabulous. Was wondering how you got so close until I read that you used a 2x extender.

Thanks 9, Pam and Scott for looking and commenting. Scott, I was about 19" or so from the Cougar when I did the close up images. There was a fence between us and that particular Cougar showed no aggression to us.

Here is one more of the Cougar that I like a little better than the other because of the background. Feedback?

a fence is always good when you are that close. Nice tame cougar it sounds like.

Some great images. No3 is my favorite, better than the last one (in my opinion). Good luck with the workshop

Awwww, David, I thought I was opening this post to find pictures of attractive older ladies. Ha! ;)

When I was 18, many moons ago, I saw a Mountain Lion chase a herd of deer across a field. I was 1/4 mile away on top of a trailer doing some work. I had a great vantage point.
Since then I've not seen another one even though I live in a State with about 5,000 of them. I've walked by little caves in the hills that I'm sure belonged to a big cat. They are very cool creatures, ones to be respected. It's very cool that you have the opportunity to get this close to them.

I like the last shot the best. The background helps those whiskers. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Scott, Bjorn, Keith and AJ for looking and commenting. AJ you are right they are so very cool. Watching them run and play was amazing. There is a big debate if the Eastern Cougar (feline type) is still around. This place has several that the DNA would say yes. I have a place in the mountains and I along with several of my neighbors have seen a cougar wandering and hunting deer. We do not know if it is an Eastern or a Western that someone has let loose once they realized it got so big. Thanks again.
