Ok I have no clue where the photo went. It was there yesterday. Will try again.

Ah! I'm very glad you found it. I'd thought my monitor needed a radical calibration.
My advice ... stop taking color photographs immediately and stop trying to not blow highlights. If all your B&W is a good as this then why do anything else? Seriously, this photograph has many fine qualities, and one of them is what you lament as blown highlights. If they were not "blown", if for example the image was one of those execrable High Dynamic Range abominations, where every tonal value is rendered with equal weight and fidelity, then the photograph would be very much diminished. The charm of the image is in large part due to the ethereal rendering of the girl, and the contrast (both figuratively and graphically) of that with the nearly Gothic background. I am convinced that the great magic of photography is the lack of fidelity that it's capable of (in the right hands). What's left unsaid is an important part of the art of it. It makes a bridge between your imagination and mine, and when it's done so well as this photograph, I simply must cross the bridge. Magic! |

LOL! Next time I'll make sure the photo uploads :-)
Thank you Kathleen, Paulo, Scott and Rich for the kind comments. I am definitely going to try more B&W images. They seem to work well with the lensbaby. |
