Yesterday we launched our official non-beta lensbaby at the WPPI (http://www.wppinow.com) convention and trade show at Bally's in Las Vegas.
A few changes implemented in this production batch as compared to our beta babies: interchangeable f-stops from f2.8 to f8 (was an f5.6 or a little darker aperture), machined anodize and engraved aluminum parts (no Dremels involved, no gaffer's tape...), super flexible tubing allowing minimum focus starting around 1 foot, compressing to infinity and beyond (versus 3 feet to infinity... maybe), 37mm filter size taking camcorder wide angle (and telephoto) conversion lenses, screw in lens cap, filters, etc. (beta version did not have a cap or filter threads), and about a 50mm focal length (was around 70mm).
The response? Well, in the words of one Canon rep to another who was checking out her new Lensbaby "What are you doing with that toy on that $9000 camera?"
Cool.
The rep who bought the lensbaby atop that 1Ds was in good company. Thank you everybody for your enthusiastic support.
If you own a lensbaby and have Vegas work to share created with your new play thing post them here for all to see.
Have a beautiful day.

A couple from the convention floor shot at f2.8 which is the most impressionistic of the aperture options, another of a bit of neon shot through a 0.6x wide angle converter.
Got the wide converter here: [ www.etronics.com]
This is a closeout price so get it while you can.

Hey Craig!
Had a blast in Vegas, but even more of a blast at the Lensbabies booth. It looked as though there was much interest in your product. Congratulations! My business partner was very grateful for his gift from Vegas, a lensbaby of his own. We will be submitting some photos very soon. I'm also going to create a lensbaby blog. We want to make it collaborative, so will let everyone know when it's online. We have purchased the domain name [ www.lensbabiesphotoblog.com].

Michael,
Congrats on being the first non-me to post a lensbaby photo. Beautiful shot. Great way to start the sharing.
We're working on code for the forums to make them more functional. The thumbnail shows up for me but my thumbnails did not show up right away and I had to come back to the page later to see them in my post. We'll have bigger thumbs, smaller signature images, constrained posted images (fit to 800 pixels wide/high) very soon. Plus, live links to web pages when including a URL.
Any other suggestions would be great.
Have a super one.

Hey craig how come your family shot is not done with a lensbabie? The person taking the image not done the extensive training to use it?
I am finding the wider I shoot this thing the harder it is to focus and the less real sharpness. I have been usuing f/4 and f/5.6ish the most...
f/2.8 looks cool ocasionally...
I love it and as so glad it works with the D2h meter. I wish the fuji would let me still have metering with it on...

Yeah, f2.8 is pretty impressionistic. I find that there is a latent image (film speak) from the center of the lens that is sharp while the edges of the lens are focusing, or failing to focus, a diffused image on top of it. The challenge is discerning where the sharp image is when focusing. It can be a finger strengthening excercise with all that racking in and out.
Bellow are three images of my son taken at f2.8.
Have a flexible day.

Lisa.....sure ! Although he's no longer part of the PPA scene, Don Blair was a guiding light for those of us that earned a living doing people imaging .
Gosh how time has flown by.......now even the Lensbaby is no longer a baby, in a manner of speaking.....wink !
When I saw the topic title, I thought Craig had launched something new again, wow how excited we all were to receive our first lil Benders.....well ......I have to say I'm still totally in love with the "Original"........it's a classic !
Funny......how this little lens has ultimately changed the direction of imaging, just like the Don Blairs of the world........nice flash back !
