Ok- new challenge... or should I say "Confessions"?
"Hi. My name is Lisa and I'm a Lensbaby addict."

What were you doing when in a seemingly inappropriate moment, the urge to photograph with Lensbaby was so overwhelming that all reason just flew away and you didn't care what the consequences or the opinions of others would be because you just HAD to use the Baby?
Or- when have you really lost all sense of time (like hours) absorbed in your Lensbaby love affair?

This could be like Truth or Dare!

I'll have to dig up the supporting images because this idea just popped into my head, but some of mine are:

Laying in the road in a puddle on a rainy night in danger of being smooshed.
....or jumping in the middle of the road in front of oncoming traffic because I can see one of the cars looks interesting.

(this pic was of me under the freeway from about 11pm until 3am, pretty much within 15 feet of that shot the whole time...pretty sick)

hmmm...these are not too bold, but I think I have more...
someone else speak up too.
(This idea was inspired by Craig's confessions of withdrawl symptoms)

Lisa

truth, i am not addicted at all. i choose my LB subjects pretty carefully as i don't think that every scene demands an LB. oh dear, i hope that is not blasphemous!

Nothing is blasphemous on this post.
:-)
It's all in fun. I'm just curious about the "risks" some passionate photographers take to get the shot. And since this is a Lensbaby forum, "risk with Lensbaby" applies.

I use my Lensbaby ALOT, I'll admit. Of course I agree that many subjects don't require LB. And I'm serious about my work too. But there has to be some "play" I want to hear about the "memorable" experiences, funny situations, embarassing moments....yeah...I'm immature...I refuse to grow up.

Goofy is good!
Anyone been stuck in a chimney?(not me...yet)
:-)

Cheers!

Moments ago the real "Lisa Who" appeared above, then in a flash of better judgement they disappeared from view.....but against my better teasing I felt compelled to reveal what a true and wonderful person lurks under those beautiful smiles.....yes I caught a fleeting glimpse of reality.......call it randomness if you will .

This may disappear, I may have to disappear, Uh Oh ! I really have to go N O W !

My name is AJ and I'm a Babaholic.
Goofy is very good Lisa.

My wife always laughs at the situations I get myself into, and I always get strange looks from random people. I usually get a shot I like so it is always worth it.

A couple of "what the heck are you doing" shots and one that will always have a story with it.

The first is more of a crazy idea in progress. The shot you see is of train tracks that run thru the middle of our city. When it hits the downtown area it runs right down the middle of a one way street. So cars are drivng right next to the train on both sides. I want to get back, at night with the lights, when the train comes and get a shot from on the tracks. With traffic on both sides, hopefully. Oooh maybe a fog machine set up down the street. ;)

Second is a piece of ice, growing on a rock, along the frozen Poudre River.
It was about 0 degrees F, plus a good 20 mph wind and I was walking on ice, down a river, in a canyon. The only light I saw in that area was this "sculpture" I found in a small crack in the ice. The crack was just big enough for me to lay down and stick my camera and half my head in. I walked the river for 8 hours that day, from before sun-up, stopping just to exchange warm batteries from the car, and to heat me and the camera up a little.

Third is a Racoon on a nature trail in town. When I'm out taking shots on these trails I come across lots of animal lovers. One time a guy asked me what I was shooting and I pointed out a Bald Eagle. This 60? year old man had never seen one. I let him look through the camera and get a good look at his first Eagle. No kidding, he had tears in his eyes.
Not so on this day. I was underneath this tree, the sun had just come up so I could get some shots. This guy and his dog walk by, look up in the tree, and he says "Bet he has distemper....damn coons". So apparently racoons aren't even welcome in natural areas! Made me laugh. Stupid ducks, always making all that noise flapping their wings.

Thanks for adding some levity Lisa
Watch that Randy....I can tell he is pretty sweet on you!
I thought I was on the wrong website for a second there. ;)

The ice story is pretty extreme....I know what you mean though....when you're into it, comfort takes a back seat to artistic quest. I HATE ...hate hate hate!...being cold....but for a good photo op, I will freeze my fingers and toes and nose off..... because what if I DIDN'T???? Oh the agony of "what if"!!!
Amazing shots BTW! Had you never posted these?

Yes I can take it like a man, but as to being a fan well she's always making demands....like embrace that old man ran ......I tell you though she is never bland and if you are ever in a jam she'll help you if she can.

If Lisa's sweety comes around we won't go round and round, naw we'll just pal around town, see cuz Lisa's just clownin' around .

I posted her real face proud, even if it was a sham, because she always loves to sound like life is grand, and believe me see will tickle you if she can...

Did you know that she also grandstands, no no I mean she shoots bands up high from the stands or down low where she can see their toes......

Enough about Lisa though, how about you ? What should we know, is it funny told or do you never reveal stories of old......be bold......I know that's what Lisa sold.....do not grow old.....I rarely do as told.

Did I get Lisa's goat ? Did she almost croak ? I'm afraid if I poke.....she might just cut my throat.....I've got my coat, I'll skip my rope and pray and hope......I haven't been the biggest dope........playing jokes !

Is there hope ? Was it a joke ? Are we foes ? She doesn't mope ! Was I a dope ?

So I will have to cope or use the rope, make no more jokes, and plead I was just trying to evoke.......and provoke ......write some prose.....

In the end I'll get the hose, send a rose, she'll smack me across the nose.

It's appropos ! Time to go.

In Denmark the queen is a very well taken care of. There are soldiers and militarypolice and bodygards and some of them are invissible..
Here in Aarhus we have the queens summercastle and a few weeks before the royal family arives the red guardhouses are put in place.
One day I saw a huge heap of guardhouses outside the castle, in a fenced area.
I didn't have the camera with me, so later that aftenoon I came back to shoot some nice LB pics of the heap.
Unfortunately it rained and the ground was very muddy and slippery. I found a hole in the fence in to my motif, and suddenly a voice shouted "what are you doing here? this is military area, you are not alowed to take pictures".
I got so confused and I fell in the slippery mud and my camera and Lensbaby was filled with mud. It was a military policeman, twice as big as me. I couldn't explain to him why I had to take photograps right there. Well, why did I do it? I guess I am addicted....

I like the contrast between the white walls and the red guardhouses.

There's no hope, I'm such a dope, just hang me by a Strong rope.......yep when it comes to the Lensbaby everything I do seems dopey......as witnessed above, and in the light of day seems more witless .

But since Lisa wants truth when bare N' our soles (yep Naked baby) I will recant what ripped my soul out of my body once upon a time.......

Context : I had moved from my Mall location to a funky downtown gallery near Chico State University, the front windows got lots of sidewalk traffic and in the basement directly below the widows I could hear all the comments to the art seen through the huge windows.

The darkroom was in the basement so I spent lots of time there with the chatter above filling the air vents with ego filling comments.....ah, on one particular evening though, I heard a chilling commentary from an unknown female voice .

What I heard was a scream calling out to this females friend, " C O M E - M E R E" the voice said at high volume......"God can you believe it" ?

I perked up my ears to hear what the commotion was all about......then came the shocker " How can they sell child porn right here on Broadway "......What ? My heart sank, who was this ? How could anyone stoop to call my sweet childrens art ....."P O R N" ?

With a face glowing red I raced up the stairs to confront the attacker face to face......but by the time I stumbled through the darkroom, raced up the flight of steps to the front door......there was no-one near to confront......

So I stood there looking out in front on Broadway at "W H A T" could be construed as something to arouse such feelings.......then it hit me !

A simple sweet photograph of a little beauty aged maybe seven or eight sitting open legged playing jacks on the ground......"How" could anyone see anything but innocence in such a sweet sight ?

That one picture alone brought so many mothers through my door to have their darlings captured......but no more, I removed all......Even now my heart sinks at the thought of such innocence lost......

It was not long after, I moved to another location off the main drag that was more lab then gallery.....isolated from sidewalk traffic and window on-lookers.

The Broadway gallery is now just a frame store .......I don't go there anymore !

I don't think this is what Lisa had in mind, but the embarrassment still chills me........maybe it's more hurt though to my soul......

Hey I have all kinds of stories especially funny ones about my antics taking senior pictures, falling into streams trying to get the perfect angle on an angelfaced sweetheart, my shoes going squish squish all day.

I even had a senior boy so nervous that he passed out in front of me, I caught him just before he hit the ground.....yikes......lucky for me his mom loved the images we got before the incident . I kept asking him if he would like some juice or a drink......no thank you.....Ooops plop !

How about the one mom that told me I just didn't capture her sons special smile, S M I L E ! he had braces on he wouldn't even open his mouth, I got lovely expressions, but after three reshoots, I asked mom if she had a snapshot of the special smile....well no......later I asked the kiddo about the smile, he laughted.... I hate my smile, I hate braces, my mom's ________, well she bought nothing, I failed....I was not worthy....hee hee !

I'm addicted to the lens, but also I have to confess (just in case you can't figure out) I'm also addicted to this site. I love looking at all the new images and trying to get some good enough to post!

My challenging efforts usually involve bribing my 4 year old to sit for one more picture, and then one more picture, etc.

Here is an example of the beginning and end of our efforts.

PS _ I didn't make her sit through 80 pictures, I did some other shots in between.

oh I so totally agree and understand. First Christmas out of California and in the frozen north of Oregon. Depressed all to heck, hadn't picked up the camera in three months - no real winter clothes and I just HAD to go out and shoot. Hoarfrost covered everything, it was a wonderful white exploring day and I made some of the best images of my LONG life. I always remember that Christmas for that reason.

Came home cold and wet from sitting in the snow and ice, but oh, what a great feeling.

In my mind now, Christmas Day is for making photos.

You might be addicted if on a very busy day, you take your 30 min. lunch, drive 13 minutes out of town to try to capture that photo that "got away" last year.... "break" into the church to check the light (it wasn't right) got caught by the preacher.... didn't get the shot....drove back 13 minutes to work thinking.... maybe the light will be right tomorrow! You just might be addicted!
