Canon mount that hardly stays :( posted by ndroo July 13, 2009 01:58AM reply | quote

My Canon mount Muse doesn't seem to be 'clicking' with my 40D body. Even after properly mounting it, a slight turn and it will come off. This has been happening since day 1 but I made sure it doesn't accidentally fall off by using gaffer tape. Finally got fed up and thinking if there is any better solution like some screws that I should turn or anything else. Any help?

ndroo,

Sounds like a bad mount. I have not heard of mounts not locking securely onto the body so I cannot say what the problem might be.

We will replace your Muse right away. Please email kirsten at lensbaby dot com.

Sorry for the hassle.

Craig,

Thanks for the very fast reply. Kristen has emailed me and advised on the replacement. Just in case you are interested, I took a photo of the mount on my Muse & Composer. Both are Canon mount.

The edges on the 'groove' on the Composer one is sharper. The more rounded edges on the Muse is probably what causes the lens to be easily detached.

Thanks

ndroo,

Thanks that is helpful. Looks like you may have a locking pin that is not fully engaging the slot or is rounded off at the top so the chamfer allows the pin to push into the mount when the lens is turned even though the lens release button is not pushed. We will see what we need to do to ensure that this scenario is not repeated in the future.

Thanks again.

Craig,

Thanks. It should be the mount that's kinda weird. I tried the lens on my SLR n a friend's DSLR ... also the same problem. Will wait for the replacement and send you guys the old one. Thanks.

I encounter almost the same problem on a Nikon body: from day one my Composer doesn't click when mounted. It's brand new ( bought it last Friday) and for the moment it doesn't seem to fall... but I'm wondering what will happen in two or three months.
Is it normal not to "click" for Nikon bodies or is there something wrong?

Carcotasu,

Had me scared there. Two previously unheard of problems in a week. Whew, glad we are back down to one.
