Letters from 1941

While my husband was turning his dad's old desk upside down to repair it, this secret spring-operated compartment opened up! Turns out my father-in-law was quite a Tiger in his college days. . .There were approximately 50 flirtatious letters from 2 different women.

We learned all kinds of things about Dad. Thanks for looking.

Johnny--I agree: Evidence from the past reminds us of the struggles and feelings we have in common with those that lived it. Sometimes we can summon the inspiration to do what's right in the present, by looking historical courage in the eye. Good luck archiving your family artifacts.

What a wonderful discovery Sydney!

A wonderful story--great captures.

I have recently begun the process of scanning and transcribing a large collection of family "artifacts" including correspondence from this same era between my mom and dad so this really hits home for me. I LOVE these lost little stories from our past.

This is Real History! A treasure that reminds us that history was real people living real lives...not just names and dates.

(Thanks to john as well for sharing his story!)

Amazing find Sydney and another nice photo series.

When I moved my Mom into asssited living we sold her home to afford the new housing. A few months after the new owners moved in they discovered all my Dad's WWII letters home and returned them to me. These letters had been hidden under insulation in the attic of my family home for who knows how many years... what a great way to discover history. I am pleased for your find!
