Ocoee Kayakers and Rafters

We are up in Tennessee for a few days and went to the Ocoee River and shot a few images. Kinda fun, but tough. We have another day or so to try some more. Thanks for looking.

#1 and 2 are my favorites, but they all feel like an adrenaline rush just looking at them. Great subject matter.

David, these are really cool, #1 reminds me of my middle sons senior trip when they went white water rafting, the picture still sits on his dresser. I definitely would rather be capturing the actions than being in the middle of it.

Hey Trav,
Actually it was cloudy and drizzling a little at times. All of these were hand held so one thing I am thinking of doing is setting up a tripod, prefocusing with the 3G and shooting when the kayaker comes in. The exposures with the ND filter were around 1/30th to 1/80th of a second. Without the filter was almost 1/2000th of a second. It will be fun to experiment some more today. Thanks again.

Interesting choice with the ND filter - might have to grab myself one. I take it the day was quite sunny then? The filter would have controlled the highlights nicely - certainly all of these are well controlled - while increasing exposure times, making the in-focus bits.. Bah, I'm dribbling now ;-)

Neat shots!

Thanks Joby, Rich and Trav for viewing and commenting. I had all three LBs out for these experimenting. I think my choice lens for these is the 3G now although all were a blast. On a bunch of them (you can tell from the blur and motion) I used a 6 stop neutral density filter. The effect was 2 fold, I did not necessarily want to see the faces but also wanted to get motion to emphasize the action. Today I am going to drive back by and do some more experimenting. Thanks again,
